When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

A stroke strikes every 5 minutes and it can easily completely alter lives. The Stroke Association helps support people to rebuild their lives after stroke by providing specialist support, funding critical research and campaigning to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.

This is a cause close to my heart as over the years my family suffered from massive hits due to strokes.

Firstly my Dad suffered from a stroke and is doing really well but still living with the effects and now a stroke 2 recovery trainer, my Nan also suffered just last year and then this year on 11th January my Grandad sadly passed away which was all linked to a stroke he had.

The reason I have picked the event of Triathlon is because I know my Grandad would love it- he taught me how to swim and always came to my swimming and diving lessons, he watched nearly every athletics meeting I ran or threw in and I still remember him pushing me on my bike when I was learning to cycle!

You are so missed and I am doing this event to raise money to help others and make you proud, I love you grandad rest in peace x
