Story

B26 is an 18 bedded antenatal ward which looks after mums’ to be (and their unborn)  if they need to stay in hospital for observation/monitoring. Also situated  on our ward is the induction lounge and Antenatal Baby Care (ABC). ABC  is triage for our pregnant women, so these women will often be anxious about their appointment and quite frequently, they unfortunately are left waiting at the main doors of b26 to be let into triage. We also have NNU parents who lodge the rooms on our ward and they do not always get immediate access to enter and leave the ward, this can be very distressing for them. The busy ward causes less time with direct patient care and a lot of time answering the door

We hope to raise funds  to improve the care on our ward by updating the reception area, first  impressions are important; when entering the ward it unfortunately does not provide the best impression, the reception area is hidden around to the right of the door and we do not always notice when people want to enter or leave. We have no reception cover to welcome visitors to the ward. The area is dated and unfit for purpose.

We are already doing lots to raise money ourselves for this project; we are participating in the annual dragon boat race, 2 of us (yep, that’s including myself) have committed to abseiling down the QMC building on the 9th June dressed as big babies!!! Even our manager has signed up to doing a 10k run in September!!!  As well as all these bigger fund raising events we are continuously doing the smaller events such as cake sales, car-boots to keep the money coming in. We now have a sale store on our ward which sells hand crafted items, such as baby blankets, teddies, hats and booties butwe need your help...

Please contribute what you can, even a small contribution would make us one step closer to improving our ward for our women.

Changing the layout by improving the vision of the main doors will allow us to provide better care for all the women who access ward B26  and once we have a functioning reception area we can then think about better reception cover, which will provide  better care for our women Allow more time with our women and improve safety on our ward.
