Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of disease. Our research includes cancer, Parkinson's and other diseases and could save millions of lives by improving diagnostics. We already help people manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions by training Medical Alert Dogs.

Story

On Sunday 30th August 2020, I will taking on the mighty ‘Everesting’ challenge.

Described as “fiendishly simple, yet brutally hard, Everesting is the most difficult climbing challenge in the world” this is without a doubt going to be the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ll ever have attempted.

The concept is simple: Pick any hill, anywhere in the world and complete repeats of it in a single activity until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mt Everest. It has to be completed in one activity with no sleep.
I’ve chosen to cycle Watlington Hill, my local climb 1/2 mile from home which has an average 7.47% gradient with a maximum of 16%. I will need to climb it (and descend) approx 80 times which will total the required elevation of 29030ft or 8848m The distance will be around 150 miles/242km.

Planning to start at 12.01 am, I aim to achieve this is in under 24 hours, stopping only for essential fuelling, comfort breaks and an occasional stretch. No sleep allowed.

I would love you to support me, you can do this is a couple of ways - come along and give me a cheer and most importantly make a donation to my chosen charity. Medical Detection Dogs who train dogs to detect the odour of human disease. The charity is at the forefront of research into the fight against cancer and other life threatening diseases. They are currently training 6 dogs to hopefully be able to detect Covid 19 and in time help protect all of us. www.medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk

Why? Good question... The pandemic has effected us all in some way, I have been very fortunate to be healthy as have my family and friends so far through the pandemic, as our business has been severely impacted like so many across the world, I've decided to dedicate the unexpected spare time I have towards training for this great cause and I wanted to try and do something positive.

Only one other person in the UK has achieved this feat on Watlington Hill.... I met Joe Harris whilst achieving his own "Everesting" back in May and it’s been a weird itch ever since.

I genuinely don't know if I can achieve the heady heights of Everest on Watlington Hill in one ride, however I do know I'm no quitter and will give it my all. Knowing I'm raising money for such a good cause close to my heart will help every pedal stroke.

Please consider supporting in any way you can. Sam Xxx
