Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
As many of you know I am truly an athlete of immense proportions so this should be just a walk in the park ..........mmm I bet you are thinking I am sure this is not the same Sam Archer that I know and you would be right, this is going to be a major challenge for me but nothing compared to the challenge the people I am doing this for went through.
For some bizarre reason I have agreed to do the Great North Run (13.1 miles!!!) on 30th September in Newcastle. I am running on behalf of Leukaemia Research which is a subject close to me.
The son of my good friend at work was diagnosed with Leukaemia a few years ago. Following his battle against the disease resulting in successful bone marrow transplant Jack has effectively been cured. He is a plucky 9 year old who puts a smile on the face of everyone who meets him.
The mum of my other friend was diagnosed with leukaemia. Unfortunately, following her battle she succumbed to the disease and passed away in February this year. I had only met her a few times but she was a wonderful lady who is truly missed by her loved ones and those who knew her.
This effort on my part is to commemorate Vivien's full and wonderful life and to celebrate Jack's bright future so please dig deep for a worthy cause.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
Sam
UPDATE: Good news and very very sad news:
My employer Swiss Re will pound for pound match your pledge up to a maximum of £1000.
I am very upset at having to announce that despite little Jack having a successful transplant and it looking like he was effectively cured his disease has returned. Unfortunately due to the nature of the relapse there is no possibility of further successful treatment and my thoughts go out to the plucky little fella and his family. Please dig deep and help the research so others do not have to go through this kind of thing. Thank you so much. Sam
