Story

I am Cycling from John O'Groats to Lands end in 2020 with a support vehicle driven by my mum. The 1100mile journey will take 10 days and each day will consist of over 120 miles a day cycling down the whole length of the UK.

I am fairly new to road cycling and have had to make some vast changes to my body to even considering doing such a physically demanding challenge. Since April 2019 I have been training and dieting, and have shed just over 4 stone to improved my physical fitness and muscle strength. This will continue and now I have started riding my road bike to understand my body and what it can do on the road.

You may be thinking why am I doing all this....

Well, my best friends mum (Lesley) was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2018. This was a shock to me as I have always known Lesley to be a very fit and healthy women. Lesley being the strong and determined women she is took it on the chin and is staying very positive while dealing with the long journey ahead of her. After a Mastectomy and a gruelling nine hour operation due to complications Lesley started on her road to recovery. Unfortunately Lesley has since been diagnosed with a large tumour in her back and other tumours throughout her body meaning she is receiving ongoing treatment and medication, Lesley refers to this as just a minor set back. Although the medication and treatment is punishing to her body she stays positive and is a constant inspiration to me and others around her. Never complaining or being negative and always staying upbeat and happy. She knows the road ahead of her is long and will have its up and downs but embraces every moment of it.

Giving her relief from her treatment, Lesley visits the Isabel Hospice Thorley Centre where she can relax, unwind and find comfort in the complimentary treatments she receives. Lesley calls it her little bit of "rest bite".

Isabel Hospice is a sanctuary to many people who are living with chronic or terminal illnesses. There is no end to the help and support they give. For many it is a lonely and scary time when being diagnosed with a chronic or terminal condition. Some don't have anyone to talk to, others feel they don't want to talk to family or friends. Isabel hospice is a safe place to talk and open up that proves crucial to there recovery. Being able to share with others experiences, concerns and fears. There is always someone to hold a hand, listen and give understanding and reassurance. Lesley has seen first hand the benefits of this also  what they do in giving exercise  classes, complementary therapies, "a nice cup of tea and a bit of cake" and the many other things they offer. From the volunteers and employees who go to endless lengths to bring comfort to those that may have this as there only release from there worries. To some it is a life line and there only day out.

Please help us raise money for this fantastic place and the people that run it so it can continue it’s great and much needed work. Give as generously as possible and remember every penny counts. Any cash donations can be given to either myself or Lesley and they will be added to this page.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I hope you will follow me on my journey. Closer to the time I will put a tracking link up for when I do the journey so you can check my progress and also will be putting updates on social media platforms.

Together we can make difference!
