Land's End to John o'Groats Cycle for CAMFED · 7 June 2021

CAMFED supports millions of vulnerable girls from rural communities across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to attend school and to create the future they imagine - for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa.

Story

Sam, Helena, Tomas and Tom aim to cycle the length of the UK: 1, 613km including 15, 170m of vertical ascent, in just 12 days of back-to-back cycling. The team has no support vehicle, so will be carrying everything they need on their bikes including camping equipment, clothing and food.

They aim to raise money for CAMFED - the Campaign for Female Education, recently cited as "possibly the most important aid agency at the moment" by The Observer newspaper's Phillip Inman.

As the most effective strategy to tackle poverty and inequality, CAMFED multiplies educational opportunities for girls and empowers young women to become leaders of change. Their focus is on girls and young women in rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa. This is where girls face acute disadvantage and where their empowerment will have a transformative impact.

In the words of Angie Murimirwa, CAMFED's Executive Director - Africa: "Don’t ever underestimate anything you want to give, because it makes the difference for a girl on whether she stays in school or not."
