Story

Remember - if you can, make sure you give gift aid!

Hi All!

So - I'm not doing a tower run or half-tough mudder (https://www.linkedin.com/in/sami-rahman-57a3195b/detail/recent-activity/posts/) , but the objective remains the same - to help those who need it.

Now, more than ever perhaps, more people are beginning to realise/remember our oneness in experiencing the human condition - and the tests and trials that come with it.

Empathising with those without the basic necessities we take for granted comes easy when we're reminded of such people in a charity advert or news report. But how often do we pro-actively do something about it?

There are an estimated 153 million orphans worldwide, with around 5,700 more children becoming orphans, every day. As the most vulnerable members of society, they often face hunger, disease, exploitation and extreme cycles of poverty they will never break out of. Orphans desperately need our help.

Likewise, whilst our own families perhaps almost never have to worry about where the next meal will come from and which child will have to forego much needed food in order to feed another who needs it more - there are many families for whom this is daily life.

I'm hoping that in this unprecedented time of uncertainty and change, our innate values of love and care remains constant, and manifests in us being able to donate anything we can to a good cause such as sponsoring orphans, and maintaining a family unit through nutritious food.

£35 - sponsors an orphan for 1 month

£420 - sponsors an orphan for the year

£70 - will provide a family of five with a food parcel with enough nutritious food for the whole month

Any amount of £s - still helps, of course.

Deprived though we are of our access to so many things we're used to, so too are the people we can help - but they are often deprived of a constant supply of food, clean water, shelter, clothing and financial income - and the global pandemic we're experiencing has only exacerbated this struggle for them.

Even the poorest of us here, don't have to worry about things like this. The poorest of us here, still live better than even the elite of the past - royalty throughout the world for much of our history, still didn't have access to the variety of food, drink, clothing and other things that we are so used to easily purchasing, or the luxury of electricity or hot water, literally on tap.

But the people we can help by donating just need basic but nutritious food to keep them going (really, that's all anyone needs!). Basic clean water to keep them alive. The orphans who might benefit from this could be given not only this, but a sense of childhood, not having to suffer from as much mental trauma. Donating can quite literally help change someone's life significantly for the better, maybe even save one.

Maybe you are looking to increase in the good that you do within the blessed month of Ramadan (I always find this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pcl-pHePCTQ - a humbling reminder of how things could be so different).

Maybe you just connect strongly with all that's covered above and want to do your part to help others in their time of need.

In any case, please donate what you can.

Because in giving to something like this, we receive so much back when it comes to the blessing of being able to empathise, care and feel for others - increasingly in the world we live in, not everyone does. Let's be amongst those that do.

Remember - if you can, make sure you give gift aid!
