Trek26 Hadrian's Wall - 13 miles · 1 April 2020 ·

Retrace ancient Roman paths as you conquer Hadrian's Wall, one of England's most historical landmarks. Trek for loved ones, and raise money so together we can find a cure.

Story

On the 18th July we will be walking a half marathon along Hadrian's Wall to raise much needed funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

In May 2019 Laura's nana died after a prolonged and cruel battle with dementia.  She was strong, resilient and funny - the resilience showing through right until the end.

Sadly Sam's nan is currently suffering from vascular dementia and has been for several years.  It's a difficult time with no guide to tell you what to do or how to deal with it, practically or emotionally.

Over 850,000 people in the UK are currently suffering from dementia.  Those numbers are set to rise to 1 million by 2025.  Alzheimer's and dementia research has never been more important.  There isn't currently a cure and those with dementia and their families bear the brunt of the cost of care.

Dementia research is desperately underfunded.  For every person living with the illness, the annual cost to the UK economy is over £30,000 and yet only £90 is spent on dementia research each year.

Through research, Alzheimer's Society are learning more about dementia every day. Researchers are working with people with dementia and their families to look into the causes of dementia.

They’re looking at how it might be prevented and diagnosed earlier, and how to improve quality of life for people living with the condition. The more we understand, the more we can do to help people stay independent and live the life they want for as long as possible.

Taking on this trek is going to be a challenge for us but worth every second if it means we can raise much needed funds.

We'll be so grateful for any donation to this cause which is so close to both our hearts.

Thank you so much

Laura and Sam
