We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may know my Dad lost his battle against Lymphoma in April this year. As a family we decided to carry out a number of challenges during the year to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Jo and I decided we would challenge ourselves with a swimming event, a running event, a cycling event and a standard distance triathlon.

The first event was originally the Great North Swim which is a 1 mile swim in Lake Windermere. Due to the extreme weather this event was cancelled so I swiftly booked onto the Great Manchester Swim which is a 1 mile swim at Salford Quays instead. The swim took place on 1 July apparently the warmest Swim of the series at 16.6 degrees!

On September 9th we did the Leeds standard distance triathlon. This involves a 1500m swim in Roundhay Park Lake followed by a 44km cycle and then a 10km run. A fantastic event which was supported by friends and family.....I've attached a picture of my girls running to the finish line with me!

On September 16th it was the Great North Run with 56,000 runners this has to be the largest event of its kind? This was a half marathon so 13.1 miles.....A bit scared to work out that the younger fitter me last did this event in 1995....so 17 years ago!

The final event for our challenge will be a 100 mile cycle in the New Forest...in a day...... this is on the 7 October.

Given the challenges that Jo and I were undertaking the girls also wanted to take on some challenges too.

Emma (aged 6 years) and Laura (aged 9 years) have taken part in the Great Yorkshire and Great North mini (1km) and junior (2.5km and 4km) runs......I attach a photo of team Casey-Marten in our bright yellow Leukaemia T shirts.
