Story
I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon this October to raise money for Samaritans, a charity whose work supporting people struggling with their mental health is absolutely incredible and desperately needed in today's world.
Mental health is something I've always been extremely passionate about but my studies in psychology have opened my eyes to the many factors that can affect a person's mental wellbeing, and how anyone can find themselves struggling, regardless of who they are or what their life looks like. The most important thing is that when someone is at their lowest, they have someone there to listen.
That's exactly what Samaritans provides. Their volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offering free, confidential support to anyone who needs it. They give their time so that someone else has a chance to find hope and that human connection can be lifesaving.
The signs that someone is struggling aren't always obvious, so I'd also encourage everyone to check in on the people around them. A message, a phone call, a smile, a hug, or simply letting someone know you're there could mean far more than you realise.
The challenge
This will be my first official half marathon. I've run the distance before so I know how hard it's going to be but I'm excited to take on the challenge, especially knowing that every step is helping raise money for such an important cause.
How your donation helps
£10 helps Samaritans answer a potentially life-saving call.
£25 helps train and support a Samaritans volunteer, ensuring someone is there to listen when they're needed most.
If you're able to donate, thank you so much. Your support means a lot.
