Story

Thank you for taking a moment to read my fundraising story for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This fundraising is dedicated to our amazing Thursday Night ICON footballer, "Gilly" & family, who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and coached for the last 7 years at our ICON Sports Coaching sessions where we take great pride in supporting people with disabilities in our community.

Last year Gillian was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and glands found throughout your body.

Gillian has overcome every challenge that’s been thrown her way. She is an inspiration to us all, having been admitted into the ICU and come out the other side thanks to the unbelievable care from the staff at the Southampton General Hospital. Gillian continues to be a star and is now back at home on the road to recovery following chemotherapy, learning how to walk again. We can’t wait to welcome Gillian, Lin, Chris & family back to Thursday football again at some point 🙌

Having trained for 3 months at the start of the year to run my first ever marathon (the ABP Southampton Marathon) on Sunday 2nd April, I’ve been looking for another challenge since.

To coincide with the last football match of the season, “#TeamGilly” consisting of myself and a few friends will be setting off from AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium 🏟️ and finishing up at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium 🏟️ (hopefully in time for the 4:30pm kick off v Liverpool 😅😂🤣)

🫶 All in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, because cancer can affect your life in so many ways and they really do go the extra mile in doing whatever it takes to give people the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support 🙌💚
