Story
A team of people at Samsung Cambridge have signed up to cycle a 60mile journey from London to Cambridge to support Beads of Courage in association with the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, in aid of children and young people battling long-term illness.
The Samsung cycling team does not consist of professional cyclists - just normal people who are keen to make a difference to Beads of Courage's cause.
The participants:
Francois Steenkamp, Zbigniew Jerszynski, Wayne Berry, Marcio Cherobim, Louis Hamadache, Connor Newton, Chris Emery, Laurence Jupp, Alex Smau, Alex Lungu, Behrooz Mokhtari, Jags Ashta, Chris Chambers, Juan Hidalgo, Jon Curtis, Julia Sirett (Cambs Community Services NHS Trust), Michael Cowell
The Beads of Courage programme is designed to provide additional support for children undergoing serious illness and treatments. Major benefits of the programme are that it helps to decrease illness related distress, increases the uses of positive coping strategies, helps children find meaning in illness and restores a sense of self in children coping with a serious illness. The children's beads of courage also help others to understand what the children go through. Each bead is their way of saying "this isn't easy but I did it".
Samsung Cambridge has generously agreed to match all funding raised by the cycle team's effort, which means that for every £1 donated by you, Beads of Courage will receive £2!
