Story
In early September, we will be running the Thames Path Challenge in aid of Alzheimer's Society.
The Thames Path Challenge is a 100km route, along the Thames (!), starting in Putney and winding its way to Henley.
The course is effectively 2.3 marathons, and we will be taking on 50km per day over two days. While Wendy has one marathon in her back pocket - London a few years back - Sam has not yet raced beyond half-marathon distance. Needless to say, the training is quite daunting (and for anyone who has known Sam for any length of time, that very premise of him taking on more than a mile-long walk to the pub will seem very daft indeed).
However, the challenge needed to be extreme to encourage you to help our chosen charity.
We know first hand what it means to see someone suffering from dementia - a life-wasting illness that eats away at memories, and has the potential to fracture relationships through no fault of anyone.
The Alzheimer's Society does tremendous work in researching the disease, with the aim one day of finding a cure - all the while trying to inform the general public of what dementia is, why it occurs and how we can help those afflicted.
AS are paying the vast majority of our £199-per-person registration fees for the Thames Path Challenge, on the proviso that we raise at least £600 each to help them in their fight against dementia.
That's where you come in. Please, please dig deep; help us generate a big figure for our chosen charity. And, if you have a spare moment on September 8 and want to see us over line, we'd certainly appreciate the support.
Thank you for reading, and for those who can thank you so much for donating.
See you on the other side!
Sam and Wendy
Alzheimer's Society in their own words: Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
