Story
In 2019 I became a volunteer at the independent lifeboat, Humber Rescue. Since joining them I have been searching for a challenge I could set myself, to raise both awareness and much needed funds for them. So, in June 2021, I will be attempting to climb the rock, Rockall in full lifeboat kit. In total the kit weighs a total of 20kg, and includes an under suit, dry suit, helmet and lifejacket.
Humber Rescue are one of the busiest independent lifeboat stations in the country, and were called upon 142 times last year, costing them on average £355 for them to attend each callout. With most of their fundraising drying up due to the COVID pandemic, means they need these essential funds more than ever to keep operating.
I have teamed up with Kraken Travel, who will be providing everything from, the travel, food, and equipment costs to for me to be able to climb Rockall, with all money raised going to Humber Rescue.
On the 13th June, I will be sailing a tall ship west to the rock, which is located approximately 400nm south of Iceland. Rockall is one of the most challenging places in the world to get ashore and climb. Luckily, I will have guidance from professional mountaineer Nick Hancock, who holds the record for the longest time spent on Rockall, 43 consecutive days.
