Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and I hope you will support me on behalf of Alix's Legacy which is dedicated to supporting research into brain cancer.

Alix was the 44 year old daughter of a friend of mine. Married to her soulmate Juan Carlos and a vibrant mum of two wonderful children, Luna 13 and Izan 11, Alix lived a beautiful life on the Costa Blanca in Spain.

In late 2017 and without warning she started developing crushing headaches.  Her pain ultimately led to a scan where the doctors spotted an ominous growth on her brain.  They scheduled her for immediate surgery which confirmed the worst possible scenario, a glioblastoma multiforme level 4.

GBM4 is impossible to contain because it sends out tendrils that infiltrate critical structures of the brain that surgeons can't get to.  Patients with GBM4 have a very poor prognosis. Despite surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, Alix died just 9 months later on September 3rd, 2017.

This is the same type of tumour which claimed the life of Dame Tessa Jowell earlier this year, and also the American politician, John McCain who died just a few weeks ago.

Cancer Research UK is almost entirely publicly funded. They are the largest organisation of its kind in the whole world, and right now they are funding several important research programs into glioblastoma. Every penny raised for Alix's Legacy is being streamed by Cancer Research UK into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of glioblastoma.

Nothing can bring back this laughing, smiling, vital young woman to her children, her husband, her family and her friends, but it is our hope that the funds raised through Alix's Legacy will help stop this disease from bringing so much pain and sorrow to others.

ABOUT ME: I am a semi-retired solicitor with a passion for helping others. I love cycling and running and in the past I have cycled from Dover to Durness in Scotland to raise money for Breast Cancer.  I've also done Lands End to John O'Groats for Water Aid and cycled across France.  I have run marathons in London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Boston - all for charity.

And now, on September 30th, it is the Windsor Half Marathon which I am SO pleased to be able to do on behalf of Alix's Legacy.  I hope you will support me with your donation and if you are in the area, then please come out and line the route to cheer me on!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

THANK YOU!
