Well, it's over and done, and I made it! 5 hours, 4 minutes and 40 seconds of running without stopping is what it took to complete the Edinburgh Marathon:) It was an amazing experience and it went better than I expected, in spite of the heat. Thanks to all my supporters, both friends and strangers, and also to the people living alongside the track who were nice enough to hose us down and hand out candy:) I would do it all again!
I'm still fundraising to reach my target, so please help me to achieve my goal of raising 500 pounds for Breast Cancer Care Scotland!

I can't believe the marathon is this Sunday!! After months of training it's a strange feeling that it is all really happening. Even though I made it to 21 miles once and have completed loads of half marathongs by now, I am still a bit nervous... To distract myself from this (as training is in the taper off stage) I have been concentrating on the fundraising part. I still have some more fundraising to do but I'm sure I'll reach 500, and I just want to thank everybody again for donating to Breast Cancer Care!

Yesterday I hit a new personal best by reaching the 17 mile mark, BAM - I'm back! The last few months have been very hectic with not only project deadlines and friends and family visiting to make sticking to my schedule more difficult, but also a knee injury and a little case of the flu. Helping out at the lock gates of the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon really got me excited for my afternoon run and I'm thrilled to be back on track after a perfect week (1x swimming + 4 runs). I'm also really happy with my time, 2 hrs 57 minutes. Those couple of minutes under 3 hours make a big difference, in my brain anyway:)
Besides the running I also have a lot of fundraising left to do, but now that I'm in revision for my exams the running is really nice to take my mind off things. It's also a great opportunity to provide some relaxation to my friends and classmates, which is why Charity Girls' Movie Night is coming up:) I'm sure that donations will take off once I start promoting my JustGiving page on facebook as well. I'm certainly gonna try!
PS. I did complete the Meadows Half Marathon (with thanks to Stasia's massive knee brace) in 2:29, see pics!

Looks like I hit my first serious bump in the road: my knee has been acting up for a few days now and with the Meadows Half Marathon in sight, I am really not happy about not being able to train the way I would like to. I've ran some half marathons unofficially in my long Sunday runs but I do really want to run a half marathon offically, I'm so looking forward to being cheered on and running to live music and everything, plus it will be nice to get water and stuff without having to carry it while running. I sure hope it gets better soon!

Last weeks Burns Night Supper was a great success, thanks so much for coming and supporting Breast Cancer Care everyone, it was a wonderful evening! I hope smearing the dessert on the host's face becomes a tradition and that it is somebody else's turn next time:)
We raised an amount of 170 pounds, with is absolutely amazing!
Thanks again to my lovely preparaton helpers, you guys were awesome and I could have never pulled of cooking for 20 without your help:)

Great news: yesterday I broke my personal record and ran a half marathon! It's so motivating to see that the training is paying off (I've been running three times a week for the last few months) and I am now more sure than ever that I can do it, as I have over 4 months to double up to 26.2 miles. Yay!
Today I did the grocery shopping for the 'Charity Burns Night Supper', as I am having 20 friends over who are all lovely enough to donate to Breast Cancer Care during what is promising to be a very wonderful evening. Lucky for me I have plenty of help cooking, organising, and addressing the haggis. Thanks guys!

Over the last week a lot has happened to get the ball rolling. I received my official Breast Cancer Care running vest in the mail and got my very first donation (thanks, camilla!): the fundraising has officially begun! I also set up a 'swearing jar' with some classmates, which holds 65p to date. That may not seem like much, but it is the result of only one afternoon... The price is 5p per swear, and as I found our first hand, certain hand gestures to avoid that penalty is not allowed either. Of course I fought this, but alas, I was overruled. Apparently the swearing jar is democratic phenomenon.
I am doing all this because I believe Breast Cancer Care Scotland does amazing work and I want to support them. Fundraising by running a marathon for them is a way to do that, plus I get to give something back to Scotland and use my marketing degree for something good (it's not all greed and mind games, you know;). So please donate, however big or little your donation might be, it means a lot and is very much appreciated.
Best,
Sandra
