Some of you will know that I was medically retired from the NHS after almost 39 years. I went through a very bad time trying to work out who I was if I wasn’t a nurse. I was lucky I had a supportive GP, an excellent Occupational Health department and psychology sessions. My manager had seen me spiralling downwards after being diagnosed with a benign neurological condition that would not improve and helped me to make the decision to take sick leave.
