Story
Our journey to improve the lives of thousands of children has been going on for over a year now...
In late-2016, thanks to your generosity, we as a community in the short space of a few months were able to surpass our fundraising target for Sangar School in Kashmir. Simply an amazing achievement! When complete, the school will allow Read Foundation to educate over 400 children annually, whilst employing a whole team of teachers and staff – uplifting an entire community!
In April 2017, the fundraising team visited the Sangar School site to meet the children and staff, as well as the Read Foundation construction team. The visit allowed us to see at first hand the commencement of the construction process and report back to all our generous donors the message that the vision was well on the way to becoming a reality. Such was the impact of the visit, we made the commitment while out there to help build a second school for Read Foundation, in an area called Panjgran, a few hours away from Sangar.
As many of you will know, a few months after this trip one of the key members of our team, Ayesha Minhas, suddenly and tragically passed away. May Allah bless her and protect her. Ayesha was a special soul, who touched upon the hearts of everybody that she met in life. Even though the children and staff at Sangar only met Ayesha once, they will never forget her and continue to pray for her.
From this tragedy, the Ayesha Foundation was born...
The team immediately came to the decision that the second school at Panjgran would be built in Ayesha's memory and honour. She loved children, valued education very highly and never felt better than when she was giving - this felt like the perfect way to honour and create a legacy for Ayesha.
Just like Sangar, the existing school in Panjgran educates hundreds of children from Kindergarten through to Grade 10. The conditions are in a state of disrepair with makeshift classrooms and inadequate facilities, including leaky roofs, no windows or power. Many classes are taken outdoor. The vision is to provide a quality education to 400 needy children in a safe and supportive environment, with high quality faculty, curriculum and extra curricular activities. This project will facilitate the construction of a seismic-resistant purpose-built school, measuring over 7,500 sq. ft. and containing 13 classrooms.
Dear friends, just like many of you have done so in the past, please help us to make this vision a reality, and thereby ensure that these children are given the opportunity to realise their potential and realise their dreams.
