Story

~~~~~~~
Assalamualaikum everyone! Hope you all are well :) Recently I came across Penny Appeal, an incredible charity who has helped many people and families in need around the world and have changed their lives forever. Insha'Allah Penny Appeal and myself will be trekking Wadi Rum in Jordan, in the middle of one of the world's most illustrious deserts, for a week, to raise emergency funds for Penny Appeals Emergency Response projects in several countries. We will be embarking on a breathtaking journey through rich desert skies, we will summit Jordans highest mountain, Um Dami, which is over 6000ft, we will explore the ancient city of Petra and visit a refugee assistance project that is changing many lives in Amman.
When disaster strikes, the worlds poorest people are the ones who struggle to survive.
Every penny that is raised for the Wadi Rum Trek will be going straight to the Emergency Response appeal, to help our brothers and sisters in times of crisis. Every donation will insha'Allah help raise emergency funds for Penny Appeals Emergency Response. When disaster strikes, Penny Appeal is there to help as fast as they can and by donating to this fundraiser, you can be too. ❤️
The Penny Appeal teams are currently providing disaster response and support in:
- Syria, where 60% of hospitals are closed and 70% of all people need urgent humanitarian aid.
- Lebanon, where more than 300,000 people have become homeless due to the explosion in Beirut.
- Turkey, where Uyghur and Syrian refugees are battling to survive.
- Yemen, which is experiencing the worst famine the world has seen in this century.
- Palestine, including Gaza, where people are living amongst terrifying conflict.
- Pakistan, where record-breaking monsoon rains and flash floods have devastated communities in Sindh.
- Bangladesh, where Rohingya refugees who have fled persecution need urgent support.
- Indonesia, helping re-build homes and lives after a powerful earthquake hit Lombok.
- East Africa, supporting people from areas affected by the famine, such as Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya.
- Mozambique and Malawi, where 1.8 million people have been devastated by Cylone Idai.
You can help us deliver life-saving medical aid, food, clothing, sanitation and shelter to those who've been left incredibly vulnerable by making a donation today!
The money raised will go towards helping the emergency response projects in all the places above! You will be making a difference in so many lives in ways you couldn't possibly imagine! ☺️
The Valley of The Moon Awaits
Day 1 - We will depart London Gatwick and arrive at Aqaba in the evening. We will be staying in a hotel here until the next day.
Day 2 - We will leave the hotel early morning and be with the trekking team by 8AM insha'Allah where we will start our trek. The trek itself will start at the Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The route we will take will take us through the area of the Jebel Mountain area. Along the route we will pass the petroglyphs and inscriptions, which are thought to be instructions and messages to fellow travellers about the route and hidden springs. We will then stop at the Um Fruth Bridge for a bit before reaching our camp for the night. In total, this entire day will take us 14 miles of trekking which should be completed within 8 hours insha'Allah.
Day 3 - We will leave the camp nice and early and will begin a long morning trek of 11 miles. We will then head towards south of Um Dami, Jordan's highest mountain. The first accent of the climb will be the toughest but not too technical. The accent will take up to 2 hours, where once we reach the summit, we will enjoy the views of Wadi Rum and the Red Sea before making our descent. We will then setup camp at the base of the mountain for the rest of the day. This entire day trek will be around 14 miles again which should be completed within 9 hours to insha'Allah.
Day 4 - Time has come for us to leave the Um Dami mountain behind us and head out into the canyons. During the trek we will pass the Bedouin dams. Once night arrives we will enjoy a special Bedouin meal near our new camp. The trek for this day will be around 13 miles which should be completed within 8 hours insha'Allah.
Day 5 - The final day of the challenge. We will continue heading north where we will pass through the Burrah and Lawrence canyons. After lunch we will continue the final leg of the trek, where we will pass the faces of TE Lawrence and King Abdullah carved into the stones. We will then finish our challenge once we arrive at our camp situated in the desert. Here we will enjoy a celebratory meal, experiencing the traditional 'Zarb' cooking and the local music. This days trek will be another 15 miles which should be completed within 9 hours of trekking insha'Allah.
Day 6 - As the challenge is now complete, we will visit the beautiful ancient city of Petra. We will explore this ancient Nabataean city which dates back to 1st century BC. After exploring and having lunch, we will head to Amman for our final night in Jordan.
Day 7 - In the morning we will help the local Collateral Repair Project where we will be handing out free food vouchers to those in need. We will also have time to talk to the refugees and the Collateral Repair Project team, where we will get a better understanding of what work is being carried out in the area, and where the vital fundraising is being invested by Penny Appeal.
Day 8 - We have breakfast and leave for Amman airport for our flight back home.
