Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
I wasn't going to ask you to donate but lots of people have encouraged me to so I have chosen the local Mencap charity here in Hammersmith and Fulham.
As you may know my sister Nicky had severe learning and health dificulties. The people that worked with her were quite incredible and her life was so enriched through their efforts. Hammersmith & Fulham Mencap works with children and adults like Nicky to enable them to be more independent and have some control over their lives. It also supports their parents/carers. Thank you for reading this and making a difference.
Meanwhile the training is going relatively well - the 85 stairs up to my flat are contributing, the treadmill at the gym goes to level 15 on incline and it's been cold recently - so all very similar to the Himalayas! I have got most of my kit and was rather alarmed in the shop when they asked if I needed to buy crampons! The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla fills me with the most fear - the most dangerous runway in the world - I learnt that on Air Crash Investigations (don't ask!) Going to see the doctor today for shots and something calming!
Joking apart, it is a lifelong ambition and I think I have read almost every book about Everest there is - seeing it with my own eyes is going to be so inspirational and life affirming and hopefully will put many things into perspective.
I am wondering too, if anyone wants me to take a little message for someone they've loved to (nearly) the top of the world, I would be honoured.
