On Sunday 10th October, i will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in aid of St Mark's hospital Foundation.
The past 2 years has been a challenging time for St Mark's hospital yet the clinicians and research fellows supported their colleagues at Northwick Park during these critical times in the Covid crises. They also remained focused on the specialist clinical care for their own patients and continued with innovative research on bowel diseases and cancer treatments.
Our research in stratifying risk and innovations in diagnostics and treatments for all types of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Colon Cancer has never been more important. IBD is a life-long, debilitating condition affecting 1 in 250 people, with its prevalence in the UK rising ever year. IBD and similar disorders are difficult to diagnose and treat meaning research into effective treatments continues to be important. Colon cancer is also currently the 2nd biggest cancer killer with over 42,000 people diagnosed with it every year in the UK.
During this time of immense pressure on clinical resources, support for sufferers of IBD and colon cancer has never been more important.
