Story

Most of you that know me, know that I am woman, I am Mum, and I am a wife. I am not a super fit wonder woman. So you may be thinking 24 Peaks in 24 hours is a massive challenge why is she doing this?

Like most of you the last few years have been difficult, and my family like others have needed to be resilient. I want to show my children you can do anything you put your mind to, nothing can stop you.

I want to show my family who have also been through a lot that they have inspired me to do something way out of my comfort zone. To make them proud of me and to prove to myself I can do it, and also getting some much needed mental respite!

So, if you ask me my motivation for doing this trek it is a combination of a few things. Going through the last few years has been mentally and emotionally challenging but I have got through it and thankfully so have my family.

In October 2021 my surrogate Dad had a major heart attack. Waiting around in the hospital seemed like hours and it was truly terrifying, the nurse eventually come to see us and told us the operation went well, he had three stents put in, and it was a very close call. Whilst in the hospital he then caught covid and was seriously unwell.

The day I collected him from the hospital was a huge relief, this was however short lived as the next day my Mum was taken into hospital with covid. On the third day Mum was in hospital the consultant called me to say that they were going to put her into an induced coma. Everyday was a struggle, everyday I sat by her bed side just hoping she would get better, the doctors were very pessimistic about this telling me to prepare myself and my family for the worst, I felt completely helpless. After a month they were able to wake her and after a week she had made enough progress that she was transferred to a rehabilitation centre to relearn how to walk and feed herself. Which she did and was home a couple of days before Christmas.
