Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I am trying to raise money for my chosen charity which is Diabetes UK. I have had Type 1 diabetes since the age of 4, (that'll be 41 years in November 2009). My diabetes is due to a viral infection (measles) I got when I was a child so my diabetes could not be prevented. It has never stopped me doing anything, and as you can see I am fairly able bodied and hope to continue to be so until the day I leave this planet in a wooden box (which is hopefully when I am well into my 100's as I love life)!!!
I got the running bug in July 2008 and I would like to raise money for Diabetes UK (via any races I enter) so other people can be educated to understand that Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can be lived with fairly easily so long as you follow the guidelines that your healthcare team advises. If you break the rules the diabetes will rule your life. If you follow the rules YOU will rule your life.
Diabetes UK has helped me so much throughout my life as a small child, (who did not understand why she was having lots of nasty injections every day when her older brother wasn't), an awkward teenager (who loved cakes and chocolate), and an even more awkward adult (who still loves cakes and chocolate)!!! I have learnt over the years that I can have cakes and chocolate... but in moderation. Just like it should be for everybody.
I hope any money I raise will help Diabetes UK find a cure so nobody with diabetes has to live a life of constant finger pricking for the dreaded blood glucose tests (I so hate those), and to eliminate the need for insulin injections (I have a minimum of 4) every day for the rest of their lives.
Please help me find a cure for this disease so maybe one day aIl diabetics can eat a cake or some chocolate without having to inject before they eat it.
Thank you very much for any donations you are able to make.
Sarah.
