During treatment for clinical depression, Sam West committed suicide at the age of 15. While a tragedy for his family, this reflects the growing challenge of mental health among children and young adults in the UK. The Foundation promotes awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health

Story

I am running the London Marathon on 2nd October for The Sam West Foundation.

For many years I have sat on my sofa on a Sunday morning, watching people take part in this historic event, thinking I would love to have a go one day.

The year's have rolled by, 48, 3 kids later + I have realised it is not going to get any easier, the time have come to be take part in my first marathon!! I took up 'running' a year ago + started my marathon journey. Whilst I have a passion for sport, endurance training is way out of my comfort zone. I can truly say it is one of the hardest things I have ever done!

I chose to run for The Sam West Foundation. Sam tragically took his own life at the age of 15. His family who live locally, have since been
doing incredible work to promote awareness, diagnosis + treatment of
mental health affecting other children, young adults + their families.

Over the many miles of training, I have had a chance to consider the affect of suicide on families + close friends of mine + would love to do my part to help support this amazing work.

A huge thank you for all your encouragement so far. From my loving family + so many of you who have offered well wishes, advice + kept me motivated. It will certainly help spur me on for the 26.2 miles!
