Sarah's Chuck Chocs for Chooks 2019

Chuck Chocs for Chooks 2019 · 5 March 2019
As many of you know, I have fallen completely in love with my 6 hens since they came to live with us in September. I'm also completely in love with chocolate 😏 So what better way to prove my love and at the same time raise some much needed funds for the British Hen Welfare Trust to continue their awesome work, than to give up chocolate for Lent. That's 40 whole days chocolate free! I'm going to try and do it without resorting to cake and biscuits too! So, if you've got a few spare pence (or pounds!) lying around, then please, please consider donating to this worthy cause. We use eggs for so much and these birds suffer so that people can continue to have cheap food. They are all proper little individuals with their own personalities and they all deserve a chance to enjoy their retirement.
Last year the BHWT had its most successful year to date, re-homing over 70,000 hens over 12,000 adoptions. We also continued our campaign work to encourage shoppers to buy free range eggs, and make sure the eggs in their processed foods were free range too. But our work doesn't stop there. This year we'll be working on ways to improve veterinary knowledge when it comes to treating pet hens as well starting work on the UK's first dedicated hen welfare and education centre. It's all to ensure our feathered friends enjoy a free range future.
