Story
On the 8th September, to mark my one year Cancerversary I will be walking up Mount Snowdon along with my friends to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.
On the 11th September 2017, months after repeatedly going to the doctor with symptoms I was diagnosed with Bowel cancer. Two days later I had surgery to remove a large part of my bowel and all of the surrounding lymph nodes. This was followed by 6 months of intense IV chemotherapy and I am now on long term maintenance chemo.
Bowel Cancer UK are the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
Most people with Bowel cancer are diagnosed over the age of 50. However more than 2500 people under 50 are diagnosed in the UK each year....last year I was one of those people. I’d really like to help raise awareness of Bowel cancer in younger people so that other people do not have to go through this shit!
As well as raising money for an important charity I am doing this as a personal challenge. Walking Snowdon may not be a big challenge for some but whilst still in treatment and dealing with all it’s side effects it will be a big one for me!
Thanks for reading and donating!
