1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you will know, our beautiful daughter Phoebe was born with unilateral microtia of her left ear. Microtia is often accompanied with Atresia, which is the absence or closure of the external auditory ear canal and therefore Phoebe has recently undergone hearing tests and now has a hearing aid.

A little bit about Microtia…Microtia is a deformity affecting the outer ear where the ear does not fully develop during the first trimester of pregnancy, the cause of this is unknown. Microtia is Latin for the words micro and otia, meaning “little ear.” Microtia occurs in every 1 out of 6,000 to 12,000 births.

We would like to fundraise for Microtia UK to help the charity to support those born with microtia and their families. More information on what the charity do can be found here: http://www.microtiauk.org/about-us/.

We will be taking part in the inflatable 5K on the 24th of September. If you would like to join us, please send me a message and you’ll be signed up and receive a vest to represent Microtia UK to wear on the day.

Thank you so much for your kind donation towards this cause.
