Story
Five years ago my daughter Michelle had a horse riding accident that left her unconscious, she also kept stopping breathing. We later learnt that she had suffered a traumatic brain injury. The Great Wester Air Ambulance attended giving her emergency treatment before flying her to Southmead Hospital.
The Doctor who attended Michelle gave me a card with details of the GWAAC. When Michelle was able to visit them I got in touch with them at their new base in Almondsbury. We went to see them and were introduced to the Doctor who had attended Michelle so were able to thank him for all his help which was so nice to be able to do. We had a tour around the base and learnt about all the training that is needed to become an Air Ambulance Doctor and Paramedic and to see what happens to keep the Air Ambulance flying.
I never though we would need their help, but we did, they were amazing, our lives could have been so different without their help …. so to give a little back on Sunday 16th October I am running the Bath Half Marathon and would be really grateful if you could sponsor me. Thank you for reading my story.
GWAAC is a charity funded by donations from the public. They receive no day to day government or national lottery funding and couldn't keep flying without donations, so thank you!
