Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello

I have recently signed up as a Volunteer for Macmillan Cancer Support.  I will be helping out at fundraising events as well as providing support to people in my area who are battling cancer and have no one else to help them.  Assisting with things like transport, shopping or just some company.

Cancer is something that touches most of our lives. I lost my mum to it when she was just 61 and so I know first hand what a brilliant job the Macmillan nurses do. The support, reassurance and advice they provide, but this service comes at a cost and so fundraising is vital.

I have decided, to show my commitment to this cause, to take on one of their challenges.  Not wanting to do anything too daunting I have decided to Trek the Great Wall of China!  The challenge lasts for 11 days – 7 of those involve Trekking for up to 8 hours a day.

The terrain is extremely tough, steep climbs, muddy and very rocky. Distance covered is approximately 80 Kms, but some days are mostly uphill.  Quite apart from this, and the part I think I will find hardest, is the lack of a comfy bed, lack of proper bathroom facilities, and lack of fizz!!!

Upon registering I have to pay £350.  I think paying this shows my commitment and determination to complete the challenge, but as well as this I need to raise a minimum of £3500 in sponsorship.  I would be hugely grateful therefore of any amount you could put towards this.

I will not only be walking in memory of my mum, but also, and along with the other fundraising events I will be involved in, hope to contribute in some small way to allowing the Macmillan nurses to carry on doing their brilliant jobs.  With 1 in 2 people now expected to develop cancer at some point in their life there is a very high chance that someone close to you could be in a position of relying on them….

Many thanks in advance for any support you may be able to give me.

Sarah
