Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I’ve set myself the personal challenge of running the Edinburgh Half Marathon and in so doing wanted to fund raise for Bowel Cancer UK, who are the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity.

This is a cause which as a family is close to our hearts. My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013 and since then has undergone many gruelling treatments and procedures to try to halt this disease. It's now about quality of life rather than cure which is not without its ups and downs, many hospital stays and significant emotional toll. With less embarrassment, better awareness, better access to treatments and more specialist staff, many more people can hopefully survive this disease and fewer families won't have to go through what my mum and our family have gone through.

Bowel Cancer UK fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. To stop people dying of bowel cancer.

£5 could help print leaflets that increase awareness of the signs of bowel cancer.

£10 can help improve survival & quality of life for people with advanced bowel cancer

£25 can help drive vital improvements to the screening programme so thousands more people have the opportunity of an early diagnosis.

£50 can help improve surgical techniques for bowel cancer patients

£100 could help create a national registry for people with Lynch syndrome

£200 can help train a specialist nurse in the latest advances in treatment and care.

£500 could help run their online forum, providing emotional support and advice to anyone affected by bowel cancer.

£1,000 could help fund vital research to uncover why bowel cancer is increasing in younger people.
