Channel Relay Swim · 27 August 2022

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know, I do like to set myself (sometimes silly) challenges and this year is no exception.  Together with 5 friends from Mid Sussex Marlins, Mid Sussex Tri Club & Crawley Tri Club, we have all signed up to do a channel relay swim this Summer.    We have our team name – Aspire Jackals, we have our boat booked and we have a tide date of 27th August 2022.   Now for the training ….

Whilst I have been doing open water swimming for a while now, this had mostly been in lakes and reservoirs rather than the sea, mainly due to my fear of sea monsters!   I think the biggest challenges for me will be overcoming the cold water (no wetsuits or any neoprene allowed), swimming in the dark, big boats, jellyfish (eek), and trying not to be sick on the boat in between swims!

I will be posting updates on Facebook on my training between now and 27th August.

The teams’ chosen charity is Aspire who provide practical help to people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injury, supporting them from injury to independence (https://www.aspire.org.uk/). If you are able to make a donation to this brilliant cause, I would be very grateful.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.  Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.  Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.  So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks
