Story

The story so far.............

In 2016 I decided to take up running at the ripe old age of 51, having been pretty hopeless at any type of sport my whole life, bar a bit of jumping up and down in an aerobics class.  My goal was to be able to run 5k at a decent pace.  When I achieved my goal later that year I decided to double my distance.  After running three 10k races the following year it seemed churlish not to continue to the next double, so I ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October last year. When the opportunity arose 2 months later to pitch for a place in the London Marathon, to inspire children in my local primary school to get active, the opportunity was too good to miss - I was thrilled, and a little bit nervous to win the place for my London Borough, Brent.

So, here I am - the final double (yes, it will be!).  I've dreamt of running the London Marathon for 2 years but never believed I would actually do it!  I still don't quite believe it.  It's an exciting, mildly terrifying, and very emotional journey which I feel very proud to be going on.

I'm raising money for the brilliant charity Place2Be, the UK's leading children's mental health charity.  I have seen first-hand the wonderful work they do in schools across the country; supporting and making a difference to the lives of children and parents who are struggling with social, emotional, and traumatic issues that create barriers to a child's learning.  They also offer fantastic advice to teachers and school staff, giving them the tools to support vulnerable children they work with.

£7 could pay for a child to talk to a qualified counsellor about their worries at a lunch time drop-in session; £50 could pay for a child to have a 50 minute one-to-one session with a qualified counsellor; £500 could support work with vulnerable parents.

Please support me on my London Marathon Mission and help to raise funds for children and families needing support to remove emotional
barriers to a vital education.

I am running for my wonderful boys Billy & Joshua, my long suffering partner Don, my amazing sisters Alison and Rachel, and all my fantastic supporters who have cheered me on over the years; and for all those children and families that need Place2Be's help whose lives are less fortunate than our own.

Thank you.

Sarah
