London Landmarks Half Marathon 2022 · 3 April 2022 ·
6 years ago, Martin had a stroke which left him with permanent visual impairment. It was a huge shock to us both that he would never be able to drive again and the Eastbourne Blind Society were – and have continued to be – supportive throughout his transition to his new chapter in his life. Shortly after having his stroke, Martin took up jogging and joined our local club Polegate Plodders who have also been a support. He has been living with running and sight loss
since then, acting as an inspiration to others to overcome adversity. It took some time for Sarah to catch the running bug too but Saturday morning jaunts at Eastbourne park run certainly helped! Earlier this year we both applied for places to run in the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Martin was lucky enough to get a ballot place but Sarah didn’t get one. So we made a joint decision for Sarah to take a charity place to raise money for Guide Dogs – a cause which is close to their hearts. This will be Sarah’s first half marathon race, a
daunting but exciting prospect!
Running has helped us both– apart from the physical fitness, it’s good for mental health and a great way to socialise. We would now like to
give something back to a charity to support others with sight loss. Having got our own pet dog earlier this year, we know first-hand how much he has lifted our spirits. How special must it be for those with visual impairment to have a trusted and loyal friend?
So if you feel minded to sponsor us then we – and Guide Dogs – would be truly grateful for anything you can afford. Martin might even consider some for of fancy dress if we get enough support for this fabulous charity... Thank you from us both x
