Belfast Marathon 2023 · 30 April 2023 ·

Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

Hello all. Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I'm running the Belfast Marathon on April 30, 2023, in the hope of raising as much money as possible for Prostate Cancer UK.

As some of you may know, my brilliant Dad, Philip, has been living with Stage 4 prostate cancer for several years now. From the outside, you'd never know: as an ex-rugby international, he's super-fit, super-tough and super-strong, even at the grand old age of 63 (sorry Dad!). He's also the most selfless, generous and wholeheartedly wonderful Dad, Grandpa and husband on this planet. And he doesn't deserve this awful diagnosis or the daily battle that comes with it, which I know affects him more than he'll ever let on.

What I, and he, would like to do is raise more awareness of prostate cancer: how common it is (1 in 8 men will get it in their lives), the toll it takes on families, and how important it is to GET CHECKED OUT, in the hope of catching it early and preventing the worst.

So please, men, if you're reading this, look out for the symptoms (there's a handy guide at: prostatecanceruk.org), get tested if you can - and, everyone, donate some money to Prostate Cancer UK by clicking the button on this page. Every penny goes straight to the charity, which works tirelessly towards research, support and fundraising. If you're a UK taxpayer, tick the Gift Aid box so they can get a little more.

I'll be plodding the streets of Belfast at the end of April. It's my second ever marathon, my first post-kids, and I'll be running it as fast as my wee legs can carry me. I may not be speedy, but I'll have the best Dad in the world cheering me on.
