Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Wave Rangers Project is a volunteering project for 10-20 year olds in North Devon. The project involves getting  youths outside amongst nature and community projects to support their mental health & wellbeing and help tackle the climate crisis. The students will learn a variety of different skills from  the wide range of activities that they will help including: beach cleaning, path restoration, tree planting, mammal surveys, fence fixing, dry-stone walling and many more.

The Wave Rangers Project, part of the Wave Project charity, is entirely free for the students who join eliminating all financial barriers. Particularly with the COVID-19 lockdown, as soon as we are able to, these youths will need even more access to nature and wellbeing support. Unfortunately these projects can not continue long-term without the funding from others so here came my lockdown LEJOG challenge! Everyone knows that I love cycling....but....I can guarantee this.... sitting in your sitting room with no TV and only a tiny mobile phone to watch films on for 4-6 hours after a day's work and volunteering is far more challenging then a lovely long outdoor cycle with the distractions of more than your 4 walls!! The aim is an average of 80 miles a day covering 874 miles over 11 days.

I am fortunate that I am still working and so this challenge is happening outside of my work and studying hours. I, like everyone, am trying to help with the current crisis by staying at home and keeping safe. I am lucky as I am also able to help with some shifts at NDHT, which is a huge learning curve in itself. Therefore some of the hours logged on this challenge will include cycling to and from NDHT and I am treating myself to an outdoor cycle at the weekend!

If you, like me, have saved money during the lock down by not popping out for a cuppa, a slice of cake (yum) or petrol costs then I wonder if you could possibly donate a cup of coffee that you would have spent? Understandably, COVID-19 has brought a terrifying economic crisis to the world so please know that this is an ask for just something small if you can. Otherwise, simply raising the awareness of the project, letting schools, parents and communities know is just as important and I would be incredibly grateful if you could like our Facebook page:  Wave Rangers North Devon and follow on Instagram: waverangers_north devon to help spread the knowledge of our charity and project. Know that you will be helping lives of our youths in more ways than you know.

Thank you so much. Stay safe and take care 🌍🙏🤞🚴🏼‍♀️
