Tough Mudder London West (weekend 1) 2018 · 28 April 2018 ·

We are a UK based charity providing English language education for the children of the Pankisi Gorge, Georgia. The Foundation was founded in memory of Yorkshire journalist Roddy Scott who was shot in the Chechen conflict in 2002.

Story

At the end of April 2018 our team will be taking part in a Tough Mudder—a twelve mile course that includes hardcore obstacles, designed by ex-special forces, which incorporate mud, electric shocks, barbed wire and ice cold water in order to challenge even the fittest of athletes.

Tough Mudder has been described as:

three hours of pain,” “really scary” and “not a lot of fun.”

So why are we doing it?

We are all running for the Roddy Scott Foundation. Roddy Scott was a journalist killed aged 31 in 2002 while travelling with Chechen rebel fighters; the group was ambushed by Russian forces and Roddy was killed in the cross-fire. The last years of his life were dedicated to telling the story of the conflict between Chechnya and Russia as he felt its importance was underestimated by western media.

The Roddy Scott Foundation was set up six years after Roddy’s death by his parents with the simple aim of providing English language teachers and teaching materials to the Pankisi schools educating local young people, including the children of the Chechen refugees. The Foundation does amazing work on a shoe string, providing marginalised children with skills they need to build successful lives and resist radicalisation.

Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated by ourselves, the charity and the children whose lives you are improving.

Thank you.
