Story
Members of the Ludus Youth Dance Company (LYDC) are working hard to raise funding for a ‘chance of a lifetime’ opportunity to perform at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival over the coming months.
After the excitement of being involved in the U.Dance National Festival in Plymouth for the 2014-15 cohort, the Ludus Dance Creative Team decided to push this year’s company in a different direction – giving them opportunity to share their work on a wider stage, alongside professional performers and to get real experience of all aspects of life as a professional artist. Experiencing the Fringe first hand will also be an opportunity for them to take cultural nourishment and learning a wide range of art genres and disciplines.
So… the stage is set! The Ludus Dance creative team, led by LYDC Director, Sarah Lockwood, has booked an outstanding venue in Edinburgh City centre and brought together a number of other professional and youth dance partners to create a mixed bill that will perfectly complement the LYDC centrepiece.
Performing at the Edinburgh Fringe is an expensive exercise and we estimate that the young people in LYDC will need to collectively raise around £6,000 to cover expenses such as accommodation, food, staffing (Ludus Dance chaperones) and also their share of the production costs. As ever, our main focus is to make this opportunity as accessible as possible for the young people involved, regardless of their background.
