Sarah's Half Marathon Month · 2 April 2021

PHASE Worldwide believes that everyone, everywhere, even those in the most remote places in the world, should have access to primary healthcare, basic education, and livelihood opportunities. Founded in 2005, PHASE Worldwide has grown into a charity which has raised millions of pounds. Every year, the work it supports changes the lives of over 50,000 people in Nepal. Through its partner organisation, PHASE Worldwide empowers isolated communities in Nepal through integrated and sustainable programmes in health, education, and livelihoods.

Story

I am planning to run a half marathon every single week for a whole month in support of Phase Worldwide's Start Strong Appeal.

Having completed the Everest Base Camp Trek in 2019, my husband Simon and I fell in love with the stunning mountain landscapes and friendly people of Nepal. However, despite the incomparable beauty of the landscape, accessing healthcare can be a real challenge for local people.

The Start Strong Appeal aims to improve access to child and maternal healthcare services in rural communities in the Far West of Nepal to ensure that children in these areas have a strong, happy and healthy start to life.

To challenge myself as much as possible, I will be running off road trail half marathon routes through the Surrey Hills which all have at least 400metres of vertical ascent!

As well as running the half marathon's, I plan to travel to Nepal in November to volunteer as part of the Phase Worldwide's GP mentoring scheme to help support local healthcare staff.

All donations go directly to Phase Worldwide. I am self funding my volunteering trip in November.
