SimplyHealth Great North Run 2018 · 9 September 2018 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
OMG!! What have I got myself into?! I have never even run 5K continuously, even during school cross country I only ever ran when a teacher was looking!
I watched my little brother run the London Marathon and was in awe, knowing I could never do it but I had a feeling if I trained hard I could get up to a half marathon. I woke up the next morning and booked a spot on the Great North Run - and now I need to learn to run properly and get up to 13 miles by September!
When you have MS your immune system mistakes the myelin on your nerves for a foreign body and destroys it - causing nerve damage which is irreversible. At the moment, no one knows what really causes MS and there is no way to cure it. The best that can be done is treating the symptoms with varying degrees of success and, if you have relapsing/remitting, hoping that it does not become progressive.
Those who know me well will know that multiple sclerosis is an illness that my mum has, she was diagnosed not long after Matilda was born. After suffering with various health complaints for a while, it was a sudden loss of vision that led to her diagnosis. That is why supporting MS Society so they can fund research is so important to me. They also provide support to those with MS through information days, a helpline and local groups.
