Story

When my darling Mums kidneys failed it was a very scary time, however having kidney dialysis gave us 4 extra precious years with her that we wouldn’t have had and what wonderful memories we made in that time and she got to spend extra time with her grandchildren. It was our gift of time and to love one another as tomorrow was not promised.

It also meant she was there to be there for my Dad in the final years of his illness which was so important to her. My Mum died two years ago just one year after Dad. .

My Mums courage during this time astounded me, she only ever though of others, she was always smiling and in good spirits despite what we were going through as a family with both her and Dad seriously Ill. I am so proud of my incredible Mum and wish she could have stayed on earth with us longer but she is safe and well now.

My Mum had  dialysis both at the Lister and the Luton and Dunstable over the years as she was on peritenial dialysis to start with,  then  haemodialysis when that one stopped working. So this charity supports both these units. Dialysis patients do not have an easy life. She caught peritonitis in year 2 and nearly died and then had a heart attack on heomodialysis year 3 and yet she kept going with great bravery and that cheery nature of hers. Nothing was going to stop her.

This charity also  provided  advocacy/ legal  help to me  to get bed buzzers put on all the beds at St Albans renal unit and L and D when lives were in danger. They helped me with attending appointments and legal representation to fight on behalf of my Mum and the patients as my Mum was given a tea spoon to hit on a cabinet as none of the beds had nurse alarms. It was a shocking situation but this wonderful charity helped me.

I would like to say thank you to this charity and honour my Mum by raising money this year as a family and to help and support other kidney patients in our area

Thank you as always friends and family  for the love and support you give my family in helping us help these charities and honour Mum . And to my beloved Mum, kisses to heaven, your legacy of love and courage lives on
