Take the A Day in Her Food challenge to empower women to end hunger in their communities

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September 2017, I will be eating the diet of a woman in extreme poverty for five whole days. I have chosen to follow the diet of a woman in Bangladesh and will be posting photos of my meals throughout the challenge.

You can see the menu that I will be eating here:

But to summarise, I will be eating the following for five days:

Breakfast: Two rotis

Lunch: Boiled rice, potato smash and spinach

Dinner: Boiled rice, lentils and spinach

A Day in Her Food is a fundraising and campaigning event from The Hunger Project UK which challenges people to live one day, or more, "in the food" of a woman living in chronic hunger in one of the countries where we work.

The campaign aims to highlight the disproportionate impact hunger has on women. 60% of the world's hungry people are women and girls. Women will sometimes eat last, or sacrifice their food consumption entirely to make sure everyone else is fed. Research has shown, however, that women are the key to ending hunger in our lifetime. When women are empowered and supported communities are more resilient, families are healthier, more children go to school, incomes increase and agricultural productivity improves.
