Building A New School · 10 November 2021
I have first hand insight into the fantastic work that READ Foundation does- I travelled to Pakistan in 2018 where I was lucky enough to visit 4 schools built by READ. The benefits that these schools provide, not just to the thousands of students who attend but to the community as a whole is amazing. Numerous students have gone into further education and now support other children escape the cycle of poverty. I’m visiting Pakistan again this winter and am hoping to see even more success stories.
This is why, at the READ Foundation dinner a few weeks ago, I pledged £10,000 to help towards building a school for 500 vulnerable children at Hattian Bala, in the Muzaffarabad District, Kashmir. The school will provide a safe and suitable learning environment for young children to learn and play. This will cover primary classes for boys and girls. Giving them a solid earthquake resistant building, with clean water facilities and the right tools, teachers and equipment to help them grow. The beauty of this project is that it will support so many future generations with a valuable route out of poverty. It actually starts here.
The children of Pakistan are in dire need of even the most basic education facilities. Only 25% of existing schools have any form of boundary wall and only 31% have access to drinking water. Add the fact that there are huge economic pressures on these young children due to their environment and the circumstances. We want to help them left themselves out of poverty.
