Asylum Welcome provides trusted information, advice, practical support & solidarity to asylum seekers, refugees & vulnerable migrants in Oxfordshire. Working respectfully alongside them, we offer a warm welcome & a broad range of volunteer-run services to help them feel safe, respected & understood.

Story

I’ve set myself the challenge of walking 1000 miles in 2021, despite a very painful arthritic knee. Motivating me is the thought of raising a pound a mile - £1000 - for Asylum Welcomecharity working with asylum seekers and refugees in the Oxford area, for which I have volunteered for the past five years. So far I’ve walked over 800 miles, so I’m well ahead of schedule. But unfortunately my knee is rapidly getting worse so I really need your donations now to spur me on. My walking is for pleasure, despite the pain, but I’m always conscious of the dangerous and difficult journeys undertaken by refugees, often on foot and with heavy burdens, and responsibility for the very young and very old – and I count myself lucky.

Asylum Welcome's work includes:

  • supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children in Oxfordshire
  • running a food bank
  • providing advice on immigration and asylum
  • teaching English
  • referring to and working closely with lawyers to support asylum seekers' access to justice.
  • advocating for better asylum policies

Please help me reach my target by donating generously!
