Story

OCTOBER 2016
Earlier this year my husband, Paul, visited his GP because of a persistent cough, which had continued for several months. After several scans and biopsies had revealed a large tumour in his chest and a small tumour in his bowel; the diagnosis was Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

He embarked on a course of Chemotherapy; however, in March his small bowel perforated resulting in a five week stay in ITU on life support and a further two weeks rehabilitation in hospital before he was able to come home. As soon as he was able, Paul resumed his original course of Chemo and it appeared that the tumour in his chest had reduced in size, although there was a large mass present. It was hoped that this was benign.

Unfortunately a PET scan in October showed that the tumour had actually grown and there were new tumour sites in his kidney and adrenal gland. On the 17th of October Paul embarked on a more aggressive course of Chemo, at the end of which he will undergo a stem cell transplant.

Paul is the most amazing husband and father to our four beautiful girls; Poppy 9, Annabelle 7, Holly 5 and Georgie aged 15 months. Our lives became complete when Georgie was born in July 2015 and Paul’s Lymphoma was a bolt out the blue. It turned our world upside down, but without the Lymphoma Association’s constant support it would have been so much harder and their network of ‘buddies’ who have survived has given us much needed strength and hope for the future.

We continue to have many happy times; the girls continue to live their boisterous lives and there is plenty of laughter. We remain positive that Paul will beat his cancer and continue to live many more happy years.

Please help support the Lymphoma Association by donating whatever you can, so they can continue to help families like ours, especially those who are on their own.

Thank you so much.

Sarah Wilson.

MARCH 2017

I realise there are lots of people still sponsoring me and reading this for the first time.

Since I last wrote about Paul, lots have things have changed...
Paul had radiotherapy in December to the tumour in his chest with great results.

We since found out that his lymphoma has spread to his adrenal glands, spine, spleen and bowel. He underwent chemo 4 weeks ago and although the adrenal glands and chest tumours look smaller they found some lymphoma in and around his spleen.

He hopes to embark on an immunotherapy trial in Southampton. He was admitted to hospital on Sunday 26th March with acute pancreatitis and is needing to rest and get better before he can be referred for this trial....
as ever he is 100% committed to beating this and he has the most amazing friends and family who are right behind him every step of every day. I am the proudest wife.
