Story
In July 2021 I was diagnosed with Stage 4b Ovarian Cancer. This devastating disease had silently crept through my body un-noticed. Currently there are no effective ways to proactively screen for Ovarian Cancer so it wasn't picked up until I was very poorly. Still I count myself as lucky; it was caught early enough to still be treatable, I responded well to that treatment and am now benefiting from drugs that are still in formal clinical trial to try to prevent the cancer recurring. I now want to do what I can to raise awareness of this cancer and funds to research how we detect and treat it better.
In March, Ovarian Cancer Action supporters our stepping out to show their support for their loved ones - and raising funds to turn the tide on ovarian cancer. In 2023, the odds are against women with ovarian cancer. Only 3 in 10 women diagnosed live beyond 10 years. That's unacceptable. Its vital we make faster progress so ovarian cancer is survivable for all women. Our ambition is to transform survival rates so by 2032 at least half of women with ovarian cancer live for 10 years. We'll get there through increasing knowledge, funding research breakthroughs and promoting fairness in care - but we can only do it with the help of our supporters. You can join in too by taking on the challenge of walking 100km in total during March, in memory and in support of the women we love the most. www.ovarian.org.uk/walkinhernameTogether, we will turn the tide on ovarian cancer.
Please be aware I also have a fundraising page for this challenge on Facebook which has currently raised £524.
