I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at just 19 years of age. Following surgery, I endured six months of chemotherapy, whilst all my friends were out having fun, going on holidays & generally just getting on with life. Whilst I tried to join in, I felt like I didn’t really have anyone I could really confide in, or who would understand what I was going through. It was before the social media boom & the likes of Trekstock, and having cancer as a young adult was a very lonely place!
Then in 2017, whilst pregnant with my youngest son Teddy, I was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome. Lynch syndrome is an inherited genetic condition that increases your risk of colon cancer, endometrial cancer and several other cancers. There is also a 50% risk of the gene mutation being passed on to either of my sons.
After finding out about Trekstock and the fantastic support they give to young adults facing cancer, I volunteered to participate in their Jurassic Coast Challenge, in order to help them raise funds to continue their great work. This one day challenge will have us trekking 30km along the South West Coast Path. Whilst the distance alone would make this a tough challenge, the nature of the undulating terrain will have us ascending over 1700m, (greater than climbing to the summit of Ben Nevis)!!
I really want to help Trekstock continue to do great things, so please help me help them, by donating as little or as much as you can. Every penny counts!! Xx
