My daughter Maddie is 10years old and has Downs Syndrome. We are members of Downs Syndrome Derby which is a local charity that provides support to its families. This support includes the provision of a listening ear and reassurance for new parents; the opportunity for children to develop through play at its monthly parent and child group; the purchase of specialist resourses for health visitors and support teachers to use with families; part funded private Speech and Language sessions; 'All Together Stick Together' group for young adults with Downs Syndrome; picnics, parties and swimming events for everyone to come together and share positive experiences as well as raising awareness of challenges to come. Without fundraising or donations this charity would not be able to provide this essential support which contributes to helping each child and young adult reach their potential.
