Breast Cancer Care - Trek Peru · 5 September 2008 ·
Hello,
As you may know in April this year my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are assured that the likelihood she will make a good recovery is high and I have never known anyone be so brave and retain such a sunny disposition despite such adversity. I am so proud of her.
The fact that she has such a good prognosis is entirely down to quick diagnosis and the use of tests that were not around even three years ago all of which are only possible because of the funding injection into cancer research. She has also received fantastic support from those nurses and doctors working with her.
A moment of madness has inspired me to trek the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu in September this year to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. That gives me just over 2 months to get fit! If my Mum can get through 18 months of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and enough drugs to make her rattle then I think that the least I can do is walk up something long and steep and sleep in a tent (yes you did read that correctly I will be sleeping in a tent!!!) especially if it means that other women can receive the kind of treatment that Mum has. I want to make her proud of me.
A couple of people have told me that it's unlikely there will be a manicurist or cocktail bar at the top but I think they're lying.
I don't think I've ever asked you to sponsor me before and I can assure you that I expect this to be enough to put me off such enterprises for life but I am asking or even begging for you to dig deep to help me achieve my fundraising goals.
Thank you so much in advance for helping me. Just to confirm that I will be paying the costs of travel, kit etc so all sponsorship goes straight to the charity.
Love
Sarah
