Story
**Please note that I've been transferred to the Great Big Open Water Swim on 4 September - still 2 miles though! ***
After the complete terror and anxiety of doing a one-mile swim last year, I didn't think I could ask for sponsorship to do the same again...so I sensibly signed up for a 2-mile swim instead. This is pretty scary, not only because it's in the sewage infested Thames, or because I have to try and get in a wetsuit again - but because it will take at least an hour and a half. I have never in my life spent an hour and a half doing physical activity. Ever. The fun thing is I can't even stop for a rest - because I'll drown.
With that in mind, I'm asking for sponsorship again. I raised over £600 last year and was overwhelmed by your generosity. This year I'm raising money for Safe Ground, the charity I work for. Safe Ground engages hard to reach learners through their family relationship and parenting programmes, but I'm sure you've heard me waffle on about our work for hours at a time. We're a small charity and in need of your support.
Just some key facts you may not be aware of;
It's been estimated that over 160,000 children have a parent in prison
2/3 of prisoners sons will become prisoners themselves
Maintaining family ties from within prison reduces reoffending by 39%
This is why Safe Ground does the work it does, and any support you can give is much appreciated
Thanks,
Sarah xxx
p.s. the event date has changed to 4 September and will now be in a lake. If anything this will be harder as there is no current, so still worth your sponsorship!
