We can hardly believe that May 2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of our fabulous mum being diagnosed with cancer.
May 2020 will mark the 10 year anniversary of her passing.
Whilst it seems like a long time since we last heard her voice, in many ways it seems like yesterday.
Our mum dealt admirably with her diagnosis - initially for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and then, a few months later, with breast cancer. She was amazingly brave throughout the treatment she endured (including chemo, radiotherapy and a mastectomy), keeping a smile on her face, and, most of the time, her sense of humour.
One of the only times we saw the illness get to her was when she lost her hair. This made us appreciate how important mental well being was during treatment.
In honour of mum, we are therefore completing a year of fundraising commencing on 15th May 2019 and ending 15th May 2020.
All proceeds will go to Look Good Feel Better, a charity, who provide free confidence boosting Workshops / masterclasses across the UK for women, men and young adults undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Each group session is led by trained volunteers and is a chance to meet others in a similar situation, as well as learning useful skills and techniques to manage the side-effects of cancer treatment.
Some of the things we have planned over the next year include :-
June - The Great North Swim - an open water 1/2 mile swim in lake Windermere. We are already in training and getting the lengths in down the pool!!
Ian (Sarah’s husband) is also joining this challenge and swimming in the 5k race!!
Summer - as a family of hoarders (a genetic disposition from the Moxon side of the family!!) mum would be delighted that we are Marie Kondoing our houses and eBaying / car-booting no longer wanted items
Winter - Coffee mornings and bake sales
If you can support us in any way to remember mum, we would be chuffed to bits. This might be sponsorship for our swim, donations of things to sell on eBay or even, if you were lucky enough to know mum, sharing with us your favourite memory of her (which we will cherish)
Love Sarah Caz Ian (and Dad! - who we are also trying to get embrace the Marie Kondo way!!!)
